Our Club

Lancs Women & Shield_edited.jpg

Darwen Cricket Club has been an integral part of Darwen's sporting and cultural history since our founding in 1911.

Our Brookhouse Aerospace Birch Hall cricket ground, with it's picturesque setting dominated by the moors and Darwen Tower behind, is truly spectacular.  We're proud of our roots in the town, and equally proud of our outstanding modern facilities.

Underpinning everything we do are our players and our members.  We've always sought the highest standards and had more than our share of success over the years.

Since 2017, our first team has competed in the historic Lancashire League, where we proudly became champions in 2022.  Fielding four senior teams each week, the club is thriving at all levels, starting with our youngsters who play through the ECB's AllStars and Dynamos schemes between ages 5 - 11.

From age 11, we have an active junior membership across all age ranges up to age 18, as well as an enthusiastic womens' section.  We welcome new members, so if you want to learn more about cricket and become part of our success story, or if you simply want to become a social member and benefit from all the club offers, we'd be delighted to hear from you.

Our History

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the town of Darwen boasted a cricket team in both the Ribblesdale League and the Central Lancashire League, but these clubs weren't well established and didn't survive.

The present Darwen Cricket Club dates from 1911, and originally we shared a ground at Barley Bank with Darwen FC.  In 1920, we moved to  the outskirts of town to where we have remained ever since, Birch Hall.

For a time, there were two separate cricket grounds at Birch Hall, both regularly used by the many teams we used to field.  We've also played home games at Sandy Lane, Lower Darwen too.

In more recent times our home has become firmly established at Birch Hall.  In 2023, significant new investment in our clubhouse has meant we can offer high quality entertainment and corporate space for our members and for the community.  In 2025, further investment involving a wide range of partners has led to the club developing our new Cricket Dome, one of only two of its kind in the country.  These new state-of-the-art facilities will benefit the club, local schools and the wider community for many years to come.
